La Trinidad, Benguet mayor Roderick Awingan challenged the different state universities and colleges present during the 1st Regional Convention on Bamboo Innovation happening at the Benguet State University gym to mainstream the researches as a result of the program.
Awingan, during his message, said the popularization of scientific studies and researches remains to be a challenge and needs to be given attention to when it comes to programs, such as the collaborative landmark event on July 16.
"I will throw this challenge to all of us here, to mainstream the researches or studies on bamboo to our communities who needs it the most," Awingan said.
With the theme: โSinnakit ken sirmata: weaving Cordillera resilience into the CARASUC bamboo nexusโ, the event brought together indigenous knowledge and scientific innovation to showcase how bamboo can transform communities and strengthen the region's sustainable future.
The convention was made possible through the Bamboo Industry Development for Environment Conservation and Countryside Post-COVID Economic Boom (BIDEC) Program, a collaborative initiative implemented by the six state universities and colleges in the Cordillera Administrative Region namely: Abra State Institute of Science and Technology, Apayao State College, Benguet State University, Ifugao State University, Kalinga State University, Mountain Province State University.
The program is in partnership with the Commission on Higher Education-Cordillera, Department of Science and Technology-Forest Products Research and development Institute, Philippine Bamboo Industry Development Council, Inter-regional SUC collaborators such as Mariano Marcos State University and Isabela State University.
