Four homegrown restaurants took to the stage to demonstrate easy-to-prepare, elevated vegetable dishes to over 80 daycare parents and their children on July 14 at the municipal gymnasium as part of the Highland Vegetable Industry Week and Nutrition Month celebration.

Aimed to promote healthier dishes at home, Love Mattet Bistro paired vegetable crepes with caramelized chayote, while BadtheWrong Cafe presented a step-by-step tutorial in making radish soup a comfort food for the entire family to enjoy.

Cosmic Farm also followed, featuring their Amaranth (kalunay) chips and Taste and Cups by Joanna C. utilized all parts of the chayote with a mashed chayote garnished with fried chayote sticks and a crispy chayote top.

Parents and children alike had a chance to taste test each dish after the demos.

In an interview with one of the parents, 29-year-old mother, Crislive Langgato shared that she was on her way to bring her child to the Betag Daycare Center where one of the teachers invited both of them to join the information session.

She gladly agreed and, as a Hotel and Restaurant Management graduate, deeply appreciated the event.

However, she suggested having interactive sessions with the kids so that they may also take interest not only in eating nutritious cuisine but also in learning how to cook.

The phrase β€œManduto Kito” is the Ibaloy translation for β€œLet’s cook”, a fitting call to action that the municipal government hopes will inspire families to bring these healthy recipes straight to their own kitchen tables.
