The Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office (MENRO) concluded its three-day Waste Analysis and Characterization Study (WACS) on June 20-22, in preparation for the 2027-2037 Solid Waste Management Plan.

Officials and volunteers from the 16 barangays collected, weighed and segregated trash samples from varying sources of households, educational institutions, commercial establishments, and industrial businesses.

β€œThis part of the study measures the average waste produced by an individual, barangay, and sector. Serving to produce essential data, this is also a prerequisite for the creation of La Trinidad’s 10-year Solid Waste Management Plan,” said MENRO Designate Arthur Pedro.

Mayor Roderick Awingan personally supervised the process and thanked DOST-Industrial Technology Development Institute and Environmental Management Bureau-DENR for providing technical assistance through training and during the event itself.

Additionally, an end-of-pipe survey will then be carried out to measure the exact volume and composition a final disposing site receives after segregation efforts took place.

The WACS is a major component of the Ecological Solid Waste Management Act of 2000 (RA 9003) which mandates the strict segregation of waste from all sources.
