As a strategy to enhance public health and safe food handling, the municipality of La Trinidad has been selected as the pilot town for implementing the DOST Food Safety Grading System.

The Food and Nutrition Research Institute (FNRI) developed the program to provide standardized tools for sanitation inspectors, such as the Food Inspection Checklist (FIC), the Code of Standards (COS), and the Operations Manual.

These work together to award food service establishments with visible star-rating placards based on their compliance levels.

As a projected result, consumers are assured of food safety, while local businesses are motivated to enhance their standards.

A memorandum of agreement is currently in the works to streamline the process and is set to be signed within the month of June 2026.

Prior to this, personnel from the Municipal Health Services Office took part in a specialized training session on Current Good Manufacturing Practices and Food Safety Grading System last November 2025 to kick-start the implementation.

Mayor Roderick Awingan articulated his gratitude to DOST and all partner agencies sharing that the program is a major leap for La Trinidad in boosting public hygiene and sanitation.
