𝗧𝗢𝗪𝗡 𝗠𝗔𝗞𝗘𝗦 𝗛𝗜𝗦𝗧𝗢𝗥𝗬 𝗜𝗡 𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗨𝗚𝗨𝗥𝗔𝗟 𝗘𝗤𝗨𝗔𝗟𝗜𝗧𝗬 𝗘𝗫𝗣𝗢

Over 300 women, solo parents, senior citizens, persons with disabilities (PWDs), indigenous peoples, LGBTQIA+ community, and advocates gathered to launch the 1st La Trinidad Equality Expo on June 22, 2026.

The event kicked off with a solidarity parade from Km. 6 COA Area to the municipal gymnasium, indicating a unified stand for inclusivity.

“This celebration signifies La Trinidad’s campaign towards equality, where everyone is a first-class citizen– deserving of fair treatment and maximum access to services,” Mayor Roderick Awingan remarked during the opening program.

Keynote speaker DSWD-CAR Assistant Regional Director for Operations Cecille Basawil congratulated the municipality for the historical milestone, commending La Trinidad for being the first LGU in the Cordilleras with a legislation-based equality celebration, paving the way for more opportunities for vulnerable sectors.

She also underscored the importance of listening to the stories of people, as their diverse experiences are what build and enforce a unique and robust community.

Vice Mayor Guiller Galwan also sounded the call to be advocates and allies for social inclusion and equality as the initiative strengthens the entire town.

Councilor Belmer Elis authored Municipal Ordinance No. 2-2026, which institutionalizes the celebration of the La Trinidad Equality Expo, serving as a permanent platform in advancing equality, fostering appreciation of diversity, and protecting human dignity.

The festivities continue throughout the week, with each day dedicated to showcasing and catering to each sector.

Former IPMR Marcelo Abela was also present during the program to show his support.

To close the program, Councilor Bartolome Baldas Jr. expressed his appreciation to the organizers and all partners who worked to make the historic event a reality.

In line with the celebration, service booths are stationed at the municipal gymnasium to provide direct assistance. These include:

• Integrated Bar of the Philippines Baguio-Benguet Chapter - Free notarial services for basic documents and legal aid (Available until Friday, June 26)

• Municipal Health Services Office - Free chest xray (Available until Wednesday, June 24)
