A showdown of technique and talent took place earlier today, March 6, as the La Trinidad National High School dominated the Arts and Crafts Contest, while the La Trinidad Nazarene Learners Center topped the Mural Painting Competition as part of the 2026 Strawberry Festival.

16-year-olds Hannah Mhae Osed and Arcie Lawangen garnered a total score of 91% with their mixed-media diorama of the valley, which includes a doll dressed in accents of the Benguet inabel.

As for the mural painting, Eunica Estera and Erryza Faith Geston, with 92% score, wowed the judges by featuring the infinity symbol, the mountains surrounding the valley, and most importantly the people who make La Trinidad the โ€œStrawberry Capital of the Philippinesโ€.

The winners articulated the age-old adage "Practice makes perfectโ€ in improving oneโ€™s artistry and craftsmanship.

With 17 participating schools, there were 9 entries in the former event and 12 entries in the latter.

Both events followed the same criteria for judging: Relevance to the Theme (40%), Creativity and Originality (30%), Artistic Composition and Overall Design (20%), and Overall Impression of the Art.

Committee Chairperson, Engr. Charles Tayaban shared that for this yearโ€™s competition, the committee decided to add a new event, the Arts and Craft where each pair was tasked to create any piece made out of recycled materials that portrays the Strawberry Festival with the theme, โ€œLimitless La Trinidad: Heart, Harvest, Harmonyโ€.

Mayor Roderick Awingan, on behalf of the local government of La Trinidad, congratulated all participants for their outputs and reminded them that the festival is in celebration of the community, particularly the youth.
