In response to the surging fuel prices, Mayor Roderick Awingan met with the Department of Transportation-CAR (DOTr-CAR) Regional Director Glenn Dumlao earlier today, April 8, to address the crisisβs impact on the local transport sector.
The dialogue centered on DOTr-CARβs implementation of a βSpecial Fare Rateβ for La Trinidad, as an immediate measure while long-term solutions are being developed.
To officially formalize the adjustment and in support of the initiative, the local government will conduct synchronized public consultations through the Sangguniang Bayan under the leadership of OIC Vice Mayor Nestor Fongwan Jr., specifically involving the Committees on Public Utilities, and Trade and Industry, Labor and Livelihood.
The first public consultation is set for April 13, 2026 (9AM) at the Lednicky Hall.
While the specific amount is currently under review, the base fare is intended to reflect a balanced adjustment that considers the welfare of both the public transport industry and the commuting public.
Also in attendance were Mayor Juan Esnara of Tublay, Councilor Jonie Puroc, Municipal Administrator Atty. Franco Bawang Jr., Legal Officer Atty. Victor Singa Jr., and COP Zacarias Dausen.
They were joined by representatives from transport groups BSUMPC, BODA, BATJODA, and BTTC.
