As part of the Farmer and Fisherfolk Month Celebration, 40 La Trinidad farmers sat as officials and department heads on May 12 as Farmer Official For-A-Day (FOFAD).

Mayor Roderick Awingan, in his message, acknowledged the industry’s critical struggles and pressing concerns, such as the lack of buyers leading to increased food waste.

“One of the town’s long-term solutions includes the latest sisterhood agreement with the municipality of Rosales, signed on May 6, involving the exchange between Benguet’s salad bowl produce and Pangasinan’s coastal goods, creating a more sustainable market”, he shared.

Mayor Awingan also recognized Councilor Nestor Fongwan Jr.’s efforts in bridging the gap between farmers and consumers, where he had personally contacted various communities willing to purchase tons of vegetables such as cabbage.

Ryan Palunan, Farmer Regional Executive Director and Regional Agriculture and Fishery Council (RAFC)-CAR Chairperson, together with Andy Colte Sr., Municipal Agricultural and Fisheries Council (MAFC) President, graced the event in full support of our local producers.

The officials for-a-day personally experienced the daily workload, including signing documents, community engagement, and site inspections.

To conclude the event, Dr. Alvin Morales, a professor from the University of Baguio, held a capacity building to further enrich their experience.
