During the 8th Health & Environment Summit, Mayor Roderick C. Awingan underscored two core pillars guiding La Trinidad’s Smoke-Free Program: Advocacy and Program Implementation.

He emphasized that the municipality’s foremost responsibility is to raise awareness and empower communities to live healthier lives.

“𝘖𝘶𝘳 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮, 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘴𝘮𝘰𝘬𝘦-𝘧𝘳𝘦𝘦, 𝘪𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘤𝘩𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘥 𝘰𝘯 𝘯𝘶𝘮𝘣𝘦𝘳 𝘰𝘯𝘦: 𝘈𝘥𝘷𝘰𝘤𝘢𝘤𝘺.”

He also highlighted the importance of ensuring that smoke-free policies are fully implemented across the local government and down to the barangays.

“𝘞𝘦 𝘩𝘢𝘷𝘦 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘨𝘳𝘢𝘮𝘴 𝘶𝘯𝘥𝘦𝘳 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘔𝘶𝘯𝘪𝘤𝘪𝘱𝘢𝘭 𝘏𝘦𝘢𝘭𝘵𝘩 𝘚𝘦𝘳𝘷𝘪𝘤𝘦𝘴 𝘖𝘧𝘧𝘪𝘤𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘢𝘳𝘦 𝘤𝘢𝘴𝘤𝘢𝘥𝘦𝘥 𝘵𝘰 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘣𝘢𝘳𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘢𝘺𝘴 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘪𝘮𝘱𝘭𝘦𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘦𝘥 𝘣𝘺 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘓𝘎𝘜 𝘢𝘴 𝘸𝘦𝘭𝘭.”

He acknowledged the community’s growing commitment but pointed out that the greatest challenge continues to be the strict and consistent enforcement of the smoke-free ordinance.

With the leadership of Mayor Awingan and the united efforts of all sectors, La Trinidad remains firm in building a healthier, safer, and truly smoke-free community.
