In celebration of Earth Month, LGU La Trinidad through the Municipal Environmental and Natural Resources Office, in partnership with the Environmental Management Bureau-CAR, conducted a two-fold event, the Recyclable Collection Event and Plastic Waste Exchange on April 29 at the La Trinidad Tourism Grounds.

For the Recyclable Collection, barangays, community organizations, schools, and individuals submitted PET* bottles, plastic bags, glass bottles, jars, aluminum and tin cans, scrap metals, cartons, papers, newspapers, and sachets, to be sold to Lanie’s Junkshop. While the Plastic Waste Exchange encouraged the public to trade flexible plastics (food wrappers, plastic bags, bubble wrap) for food items like Dewberry biscuits, Great Taste White Twin Pack, and XTRA BIG Pancit Canton.

A whopping total of 5,333.5 kg of recyclables were collected, while 2 kg of flexibles were accumulated for the plastic waste exchange.

Juanito Angeles, 85 years old of Barangay Wangal, shares his experience, β€œEvery day of my life, I collected and consolidated materials, and I never burned them. I also waited for an environmental activity like this, and I used my car to bring the items here. We have always talked about climate change in the office when I was still working, so I wanted to take part in helping.”

EMB Regional Director Engr. Jean C. Borromeo graced the activity and reinforced the importance of the 10Rs: Refuse, Rethink, Reduce, Reuse, Repair, Refurbish, Remanufacture, Repurpose, Recycle, and Recover.

Municipal Mayor Hon. Romeo K. Salda, together with Municipal Vice Mayor Hon. Roderick C. Awingan, Municipal Councilor Hon. Guiller A. Galwan, and ABC President, Hon. Jonie S. Puroc, were present to impart their messages of support and our shared responsibility to protect the surrounding land, air, and water so that generations may enjoy the fruits of a well-taken care of and protected environment.
