Mayor Roderick Awingan hosted Counsellor and Trade Commissioner Eleonore Christiane Rupprecht and Trade Commissioner Dodjie Fabian from the Embassy of Canada yesterday, January 29, at the Municipal Hall.
Discussions revolved around potential areas of collaboration, particularly the implementation of a SMART Municipality, urban traffic management, agricultural biotechnology to enhance local crops, and the circular economy.
“We are eager to explore global best practices that align with La Trinidad’s vision. Partnering with Canada paves the way for technical expertise that can revamp our services while protecting our heritage,” Mayor Awingan said.
Counsellor Rupprecht and Commissioner Fabian also gained insight into the locality’s priorities and current economic drivers.
“Sustainability is about striking a balance between progress and culture, and Canada is known for that. Since there is much more to discuss, we could also look into the possibility of a sisterhood agreement,” remarked Counsellor Rupprecht.
Vice Mayor Guiller Galwan and Councilor Horacio Ramos provided additional vital socio-economic context, ensuring a comprehensive overview of La Trinidad’s landscape.
The dialogue concluded with a commitment to future partnership and the exchange of tokens.
