On October 16, Joshua Bay-an, a student from Cordillera Career Development College (CCDC), emerged as the champion during the ‘TED Talk’ Public Speaking Competition held at the municipal gymnasium as part of the 1st La Trinidad Universal Access to Information Week.

The third-year Accounting student spoke on the topic of Media Ethics, highlighting the phrase, “Think before you click," as a basic yet essential principle in navigating the digital world.

Meanwhile, second-place winner Beverly Tongali, BVS Colleges representative, expounded on the theme of Information Integrity.

Both students were awarded plaques of recognition and will receive cash prizes of ₱5,000 and ₱4,000, respectively.

In their messages, Mayor Roderick Awingan, together with Municipal Administrator Atty. Franco Bawang Jr. both emphasized that information is power, reiterating its crucial role in shaping young minds.

To further encourage the participants, judges Jostice Baquilan, Lovely Bomowey and Aaron Marc Alain Calya-en shared practical public speaking tips and pointers following the presentations.

The competition was inspired by the world-renowned Technology, Entertainment and Design (TED) Talk format, where speakers present ideas worth spreading.
