In anticipation of the effects of the Southwest Monsoon (Habagat), Mayor Roderick Awingan, together with the members of the Municipal DRRM Council raised the town’s alert level to Blue Alert, during a Pre-Disaster Risk Assessment (PDRA) meeting earlier this afternoon, June 22.
According to the latest weather update, Typhoon Francisco is moving west northwestward and is expected to be at its strongest tomorrow, June 23.
While the typhoon has no direct landfall effect on the municipality and nearby areas, its movement pulls the Southwest Monsoon closer, enhancing its impact, which is expected to bring localized thunderstorms from Wednesday to Friday (June 24-26).
According to the MDRRMO, this typhoon’s recurve (constant change in direction) is an effect of the El Niño, a contrast to last year’s La Niña where La Trinidad experienced most of the tropical cyclone impacts.
To ensure preemptive measures are observed, all barangays are reminded to conduct weekly clean-up drives under the DILG’s Kalinga at Inisyatiba para sa Malinis na Bayan (KALINISAN) Program.
An Executive Order formalizing the heightened alert level will be officially issued within the day.
