Benguet National High School (BeNHS) student, Shirwein Cuaban of barangay Balili took clinched a silver medal under the Pencak Silat event in the recently concluded 66th Palarong Pambansa held in Agusan del Sur, CARAGA from May 24 to 31, 2026.
Competing in the Male Tanding (Combat) Silver Medalists Class B Category, Cuaban dominated Negros Islands Regionβs Cyrus Camiguin.
Alongside him are his teammates who have likewise brought great pride and honor to the municipality:
β’ Keira Jenice Libunao (BeNHS) - Female Tanding (Combat) fought for Bronze Class D Category
β’ Shaniah Mangapac (BeNHS) - Female Tanding (Combat) fought for Bronze Class C Category
β’ Szheejay Malbido (Cordillera Career Development College) - fought through eliminations
Under the guidance of their coach, Renier Bencio, the team visited Mayor Roderick Awingan, earlier today, June 9 to thank the LGU for its support and assistance.
Pencak Silat is an indigenous martial art originating in Indonesia that involves striking, grappling, throwing, and choreographed body movements.
βTandingβ is one of the two categories of Pencak Silat in which players engage in sparring.
