'GULAYAN SA BAYAN' AGREEMENT BOOSTS WOMEN IN AGRICULTURE

Under the 'Gulayan sa Bayan’ Program, the municipal government of La Trinidad entered into a formal agreement with the women of the Rural Improvement Club (RIC) of Guadayan, Puguis, last February 10.

To intensify backyard gardening efforts, fight malnutrition and ultimately amplify food security, the Department of Agriculture (DA), as the lead implementer, has provided free highland and lowland vegetable seeds and propagation materials.

In support of this initiative, the Agriculture Office has pledged to provide technical assistance in the preparation of reports and documents to be submitted to DA-CAR, as well as additional funding for the program.

As a barangay-based agricultural organization, La Trinidad’s RIC serves as a direct supplier for the community, allowing the general public to purchase fresh, locally-grown produce.

Mayor Roderick Awingan advocates for the active involvement of women in farming, ensuring that gender knows no bounds in building a more resilient and well-nourished community.
