A team from DOST-Food and Nutrition Research Institute sat down with Mayor Roderick Awingan on September 23 to discuss the implementation of the PALIGID program, an initiative that utilizes local food systems in improving nutrition security.

The research is titled “Towards a Sustainable Philippine Food System: Understanding Availability, Accessibility, Lived Experiences, and Nutrition Outcomes through Mapping and Modelling Geospatial and Observational Data” which uses a framework to depict the interconnectedness of local diets, food landscapes, including supply chains and examine how external drivers influence them.

Expressing his support, the mayor congratulated the team for utilizing their expertise to enhance access to healthy, safe and sustainably produced food.

The program is further divided into two projects: the first will assess the town’s food value chain, environment, and consumption patterns, while the second will map out its local food network.
