LA TRINIDAD SEEKS PROVINCIAL SUPPORT FOR PALMAVILLE DRAINAGE SYSTEM

La Trinidad Mayor Roderick C. Awingan recently met with Benguet Governor Melchor Diclas and provincial officials to seek additional support for a major infrastructure project focused on long-term flood mitigation in the municipality.

The proposed initiative involves the construction of an expansive drainage system beginning at the Palmaville–Puguis junction, extending along Palmaville Road, and channeling toward Betag Creek. Designed as a strategic flood control measure, the project aims to effectively divert water runoff from Puguis and directly address the recurring flooding concerns at the Buyagan–Wangal junction that have long affected motorists, commuters, and nearby residents.

While the Municipal Government of La Trinidad, together with the Department of Public Works and Highways through Congressman Eric Yap, has already committed initial funding support, Mayor Awingan emphasized the need for strengthened provincial partnership to ensure the project’s full and successful implementation.

By securing additional provincial assistance, the municipal government seeks to accelerate the completion of this critical drainage infrastructure, significantly improving road safety, accessibility, and long-term resilience for affected communities.

This collaborative effort highlights the shared commitment of municipal and provincial leadership to proactive infrastructure development, public safety, and sustainable solutions that enhance the quality of life for the people of La Trinidad.
