Porters, retailers, and community members gathered for a prayer vigil at the La Trinidad Vegetable Trading Post, last night, May 13 to voice their concerns over urgent agricultural decisions.
Seeking a more solid and stable intervention, the League of Associations of the La Trinidad Vegetable Trading Area, invited Rev. Fr. Victor Munar to lead the prayers for both national and local leaders.
The group presented a manifesto appealing for the cancellation of carrot importation through the approval of the Department of Agriculture (DA) which is scheduled from April until July 2026.
Agot Balanoy, the organization’s adviser, briefly shared that in Metro Manila, vegetables pass through nine layers of trade before reaching the consumers, explaining the steep prices.
Meanwhile, Councilor Nestor Fongwan Jr. directly pleaded with President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. and the DA, asserting that importation poses a major threat to the economy rather than a solution to the challenges of local farmers.
