ONWARDS COMMUNITY POLICING AND STRONGER PLEB

Women members of the People's Law Enforcement Board (PLEB) in La Trinidad, Benguet underwent a two-day seminar called "Strengthening Community policing and People's Law Enforcement Board (PLEB) awareness through effective stress management" on October 13 to 14 at the Agricultural Training Institute-CAR BSU Compound.
PLEB Chairperson Atty. Susana Gapla-ew Umayat led the event with the discussion on the "Introduction to the Peoples Law Enforcement Board" while resource person Napolcom-Benguet head Atty. Zane Mark Bongayon spoke on "Administrative Offenses and Penalties" and the "Community and Service-Oriented Policing System".
Other resource persons tapped during the event were psychologist Dr. Irene Alcantara who talked about "Stress Management and Mental Health" and Councilor Atty. Bartolome Baldas with the topic "Women and Local Laws".
Mayor Roderick Awingan, in his message to women volunteers, said there is a positive and healthy relationship of the police and the community in the municipality when it comes to giving service to the town.
He said evident of this is the award of La Trinidad local government unit as the best stakeholder nationwide during the 31st Police Community Relations (PCR) Month of the PNP at Camp Crame. This showed the strong coordination between the La Trinidad Municipal Police Station and the municipal LGU in community programs.
"The Police cannot resolve all issues on peace and order and safety in La Trinidad, so in our simple ways let's contribute to the various volunteerism programs of the municipality," Awingan said.
Also in photos were PLEB members Sonny Victor Balanoy and Miranda Bingcola.
PLEB is a local civilian board created under Republic Act No. 6975 (the DILG Act of 1990) and strengthened by Republic Act No. 8551, to act as a check and balance mechanism against erring, abusive, or rogue police officers. It is organized at the city or municipality level and operates independently of the PNP command hierarchy.
