A total of 90 senior citizens each received a ₱10,000 cash gift from the National Commission of Senior Citizens-CAR (NCSC-CAR) as part of the Linggo ng Katandaang Filipino (Elderly Filipino Week) celebration held this afternoon at the municipal gymnasium.

“Without your sacrifices as leaders and community members, we would not have the vibrant La Trinidad we have today,” shared Mayor Roderick Awingan.

Atty. Luz Laureta-Balisong, NCSC-CAR Regional Director, was also present to witness the ceremonial payout to one grantee.

RA 11982, also known as the Expanded Centenarians Act, supports this distribution, where individuals reaching the “milestone ages” of 80, 85, 90, and 95 are eligible to apply for the grant.

Municipal Ordinance 6-2024 also supports septuagenarians, octogenarians, nonagenarians, and centenarians in the valley through the provision of cash incentives, underscoring that life longevity as a result of self-discipline, healthy lifestyle, and clean living is worthy of recognition and commendation.

“We highly encourage our senior citizens to apply for these programs as they are a way to appreciate our elders,” said Irineo Alfaro Jr., Senior Citizens Affairs coordinator.

Former President Fidel Ramos declared the first week of October as Linggo ng Katandaang Filipino (Elderly Filipino Week) through Proclamation No. 470, s. 1994, which aims to honor the wisdom and contributions of elderly Filipinos and their role in nation-building, nurturing a culture of respect and multigenerational learning.
