SHILAN, BAHONG NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH GROUPS TAKE OATH

More Neighborhood Watch Groups are being established in the different barangays of the municipality, with the barangays of Shilan and Bahong recently joining the group.
In Barangay Shilan, a total of 41 members took oath on Aug. 13 followed by Barangay Bahong with 35 members on Aug. 17. Mayor Roderick Awingan administered the oath of office as witnessed by La Trinidad Municipal Police Station Chief Lt.Col. Zacarias Dausen and barangay captains Melecio Orid (Shilan) and Christopher Suhat (Bahong).
More than peace and order and crime prevention, the mayor said the program will be expanded to include emergency situations and calamities.
Hilda Obar, municipal NWG focal person said, the group is complementary to the functions of the barangay local government unit, thus the members are from the citizens not holding any barangay office. Obar said other barangays are set to conduct its oathtaking for members of NWG.
The program was relaunched in 2025 and based from the 2018 ordinance authored by the mayor when he was a councilor, called the "Neighborhood Watch Program", which is a community-police partnership where the NWG groups, through their focal persons, have direct access to the police and municipal LGU in reporting happenings in their communities.
