“We didn’t just want to give. We wanted to help the people and the community.”

Amie Teehankee and son Hiroshi Ivan Teehankee gave these words of affirmation in today’s inaugural opening of a 75 meter access road in barangay Ambiong that was constructed on a lot their family donated.

The road, spanning 280 sq. meters of the family’s property, has vastly improved a passage for the residents especially for those who wished to visit the barangay’s public cemetery.

So deeply touched were the residents as mayor Roderick Awingan, Ambiong PB Frederick Tao-ing and barangay officials expressed their heartfelt gratitude to the family. Awingan said he will move that the road be named as “Teehankee Road.” The Teehankee family will also be invited to receive the Kayabang Award during the town’s foundation day.

Luz Nabe, a woman leader, said the people will never forget such generous act while PB Fredrick Tao-ing said the residents were lucky to have a neighbor who decided to share a portion of their estate.

Awingan commended the barangay officials for completing the negotiation for the lot’s eventual transfer to the barangay. The LGU funded the road which the municipal engineering office implemented.

“The family showed what a deep civic mindedness is all about. Their decision to share a lot is a legacy which we hope would also inspire others to do the same,” he said.
