As part of their research and benchmarking, the local government of La Trinidad received a delegation from the Department of Agriculture-SOCCSKSARGEN (Region XII) last March 25.
Providing a closer look into the operations of the La Trinidad Vegetable Trading Post (LTVTP), Market Supervisor Janice Alleg discussed the facility’s history, market flow, and vegetable outflow.
With Benguet’s produce travelling as far as Palawan and Mindanao, the LTVTP caters to a total of 145 to 160 farmers daily, moving an estimated volume of 450,000 kg each day.
Also included in her presentation was the LTVTP’s fiscal performance in 2024, revenue collected from rentals, parking fees, pay toilets and penalties, amounted to ₱41,922,388.21.
She also highlighted one of the local ordinances such as Municipal Ordinance No. 5-2009 also known as the LTVTP Code which governs the trading post administration.
“Culture defines the system,” said Mayor Roderick Awingan, explaining that long before laws and policies were enacted, the LTVTP was already a self-sufficient economic hub catering to thousands of traders and businesses in Benguet.
He also cited that while change does not happen overnight in a well-built structure like the LTVTP, the LGU’s efforts are never in vain as it continues to implement its local policies and initiatives.
Mayor Awingan added that the LTVTP bears personal significance as it is his current topic of his post graduate studies dissertation.
To express their deepest appreciation the delegation gifted Mayor Awingan their best produce such as oranges and organic red rice.
The visit concluded with a first-hand experience tour of the LTVTP and made a stop at the Strawberry Lane for a taste of the town’s famous fresh strawberries.
