In a move to elevate La Trinidadβs Arabica beans, the municipality formally renewed its agreement with sister town, Minamimaki, Japan, during the opening program of the 9th Coffee Festival last February 18.
βOur sisterhood pact with Minamimaki serves as a profound appreciation to our coffee, a meaningful industry that involves everyone in the supply chain,β declared Mayor Roderick Awingan during his message.
Furthermore, Mayor Yoshito Arisaka congratulated the municipality on another year of celebration and thanked everyone for the warm welcome.
βCoffee connects people, that is why we empathize with the victims of Typhoons Tino and Uwan last year. During that difficult time, our town donated 1M yen to the Japanese Embassy to support the farmers. As we have extended aid to the Philippines, we affirm our stand with La Trinidad," Mayor Arisaka beamed.
The Japanese delegation also presented sample packages of La Trinidadβs Arabica beans for export.
This sustained agreement means that Minamimaki will assist in areas such as:
Technical assistance in agriculture, especially for coffee and strawberries
Acceptance of young farmers from La Trinidad as trainees
Exchange of people in a wide range of occupations, not limited to agriculture
Information exchange
Exchange of health, environmental conservation, culture, trade, and tourist programs
Later that evening, the municipality hosted the visitors to a dinner at Bloomdish Restaurant and a cultural performance from the La Trinidad Municipal Employees Association (LTMEA) Cultural Dance Troupe.
