Cultivating a bond built on agriculture, the local government of La Trinidad hosted a delegation from Minamimaki, Japan earlier this evening, February 3 at the Lednicky Hall of the Municipal Building.
Toshihiro Shimizu, Secretary General of the Japan Agricultural Exchange Council (JAEC) introduced the delegation composed of farmers and former educators.
Their visit sets the stage of the formal renewal of the agreement during the upcoming 9th La Trinidad Coffee Festival on February 16-20.
βWe hope that during your stay, you feel the genuine heart of our community,β welcomed Mayor Roderick Awingan. βJust as your home is known for its stunning mountain views and agricultural excellence, La Trinidad prides itself on being the Strawberry Fields of the Philippines, and we see so much of our own spirit reflected in youβ.
Vice Mayor Guiller Galwan added that the gathering symbolizes a bridge of shared values between communities: a respect for nature, commitment to community, and a spirit of hospitality.
βWhile we have prepared a cultural performance, we have more importantly created space for genuine connection,β he articulated.
La Trinidadβs very own cultural dance troupe showcased the βTayawβ (Tayao) and invited the guests during the βBendiyanβ (Bendian).
To conclude the program, Kunihiko Ide and Haruko Ichikawa, municipal councilors of Minamimaki presented their tokens of appreciation to our local officials.
The delegation is also set to visit the La Trinidad Trading Post tomorrow morning to grasp the local agriculture landscape.
