The first batch of 80 "Bantay Basura" advocates has been officially deputized to enforce environmental laws in La Trinidad following a comprehensive re-orientation program facilitated by the Municipal Mayor’s Office. The training, part of the Municipal Ordinance Enforcers program, focused on equipping participants with the tools to effectively implement the town’s solid waste policies. During the session, Executive Assistant Atty. Delmar Cariño discussed the importance of customer care and professional engagement, while Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Officer (MENRO) Arthur Pedro provided a detailed review of Republic Act 9003 and the specific features of the local solid waste management ordinance.

The event concluded with an official oath-taking ceremony led by Benguet Governor Melchor Diclas. Through this induction, the advocates are now formally authorized to enforce municipal regulations, focusing on waste segregation at the source, anti-littering measures, and other environmental policies. Mayor Roderick Awingan emphasized the importance of this milestone, stating that the training and deputization are essential to "give teeth" to the advocates' duties. This initiative ensures that the Bantay Basura have the authority required to uphold the municipality’s commitment to a cleaner and more sustainable environment.
