SB AND MAYOR MEETS TO ADDRESS PRESSING MATTERS IN THE MUNICIPALITY

The Sangguniang Bayan led by Vice Mayor Guiller Galwan met with Mayor Roderick Awingan on Aug. 12 to address various concerns in the municipality including the immediate actions to be done on the effects of the Southwest monsoon rains to the town.
The concerns include the fast tracking of the construction of retaining walls at the Lamtang Elementary School in Barangay Puguis and the Alno Kadoorie ES/Alno National High School in Barangay Alno due to landslides; continuous clearing of the Ambiong-Lubas road; monitoring of the Beckel road construction and other status of roads; among other concerns.
With regard to the Bolo Creek, the mayor said he earlier met with the officials of the DPWH-Cordillera with Regional Director Editha Barbaran and Benguet 1st District Engineering Office OIC Teofilo Ramirez to bring the concerns of the municipality to them particularly of the function of the agency's multi-million flood mitigation project near the Strawberry Farm. Awingan said he intends to continue lobbying for the fast tracking of the flood mitigation project up to the national office of the DPWH.
In relation, Municipal Engineer Benedict Pineda, who also sat during the meeting, stated that they are working for the clearing and other engineering intervention for the smaller creeks and waterways that drains to the Bolo Creek.
The mayor and the SB also talked about revisiting the municipality's incident command system, which is a tool used to manage emergencies in an organized and coordinated way, especially used during disasters and calamities.
Earlier that day, the SB conducted its weekly regular council meeting prior to discussing with the mayor.
